Research, Analysis, and Systems Integration

Our Work

Ohio State Battelle Center tackles the most important challenges at the intersection of technology and public policy. We create actionable intelligence for decision-makers to address ‘wicked’ national challenges by advancing research in policy modeling and simulation; data integration and visualization; human-machine teaming; decision-science; and risk communication.
Monitoring and mitigating online misinformation

We’re fighting the COVID-19 “infodemic” by creating new methods for the early detection of content that presents the highest risk to health and safety.

Pandemic preparedness and response

We’ve supported state and university-level decision-making throughout COVID-19, providing critical analysis on technical challenges ranging from disease surveillance and forecasting to PPE stockpile management.

Policy for innovation and emerging technologies

The pace of technological change is accelerating. We’re providing policymakers with a roadmap for the future of everything from hypersonics to remote sensing, AI, and biotechnology.

Guiding Principles

Our research and training programs are united by the shared principles of translating evidence, anticipating change, and innovating in the public interest.

Solving wicked policy challenges requires the distillation of complex technical tradeoffs into core concepts and plain language. As a bridge between policymakers and technologists, we’re advancing approaches in data visualization, risk communication, and digital storytelling to create a shared understanding of emerging threats and opportunities.

We’re pushing beyond reactive approaches to rapidly changing technological, environmental, and social systems by developing technological and analytical tools for foresight. Our goal is to be one step ahead of the next threat, whether it be from a pandemic, disinformation campaign, or the unanticipated impact of an emerging technology.

We don’t simply study problems; we generate ideas and technologies for change. We converge teams and ideas from multiple disciplines to create path-breaking solutions in the public interest.
