Battelle Center to Join Global Carbon Capture Leaders at CCUS Latin America 2025

The Battelle Center will take part in CCUS Latin America 2025 as an Endorsing Organization and will continue its commitment to advancing sustainable and science-informed policy and energy solutions. Held in Cartagena, Colombia this May, the conference brings together technical experts and decision-makers from around the world to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).

Presented by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society for Exploration Geophysicists, the event creates a unique space where industry leaders and academic researchers can collaborate on real-world challenges tied to carbon mitigation and energy transitions.

Latin America faces the dual challenge of meeting growing energy demands while lowering emissions, making technologies like CCUS increasingly vital. As part of its mission to support carbon-neutral innovation, the Battelle Center works across science, engineering, and public policy to help address regional and global climate challenges.

Daniel Kelley, Director of the Battelle Center, will be featured in a plenary panel on policy and regulation, speaking to the vital role governance plays in enabling large-scale deployment of CCUS technologies. He notes:

“Increasing the scale of carbon capture, utilization, and storage is key to the realization of a carbon neutral energy market that includes fossil fuels. As the need and implementation of CCUS increases, the policy and regulation considerations are important. This international meeting will provide a venue for both technologies and policies to be shared between a global community of experts and practitioners. These are discussions in which the OSU Battelle Center can help to leverage cutting edge technologies for the public good.”

Also attending is Michael Pires who serves as the Battelle Center’s Operations Manager and further underscores the Center’s dedication to cross-sector collaboration.

The Battelle Center’s participation reflects its broader mission: to build multidisciplinary teams and advance public-private partnerships that drive innovation and long-term sustainability. By showing up where critical conversations are happening, the Battelle Center is ensuring that public interest remains a central focus as new energy strategies take shape.
