Daniel Kelley, director of the Battelle Center, was officially sworn into the Metro Schools Governing Board, joining the group that helps guide the school. His appointment followed a letter of nomination from Ohio State President Ted Carter to Metro Schools Superintendent Meka Pace, making him the first board member in years to receive a nomination directly from the university president.
Kelley brings experience in higher education leadership and hands-on experiential learning, including leading STEM and natural resources programs at multiple colleges and engaging in international conservation and policy work. Throughout his career, he has focused on connecting research and education to real-world challenges, a perspective that will directly inform his work on the Governing Board. He will help guide Metro Schools in creating opportunities for students to apply classroom learning to real-world problem solving, expand access to university resources and continue building meaningful, project-based experiences that prepare students for college and careers.
The Battelle Center has partnered with Metro Schools for several years, supporting curriculum development, classroom engagement and student-focused initiatives. Kelley’s service on the board builds on that collaboration and reflects the Battelle Center’s ongoing commitment to advancing innovative learning opportunities and connecting students with university expertise. His role on the Governing Board further strengthens the partnership and underscores the shared investment of both institutions in student success.
The Battelle Center is proud to see its director serve on the Metro Schools Governing Board and help strength a partnership rooted in collaboration, trust and a shared investment in education.
