PITCREWS: Connecting Students with Public-Interest Tech Careers

The Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy hosted the Public Interest Technology Career Recruiting, Employment, and Workforce Summit (PITCREWS) on February 27, 2025, an event connecting students with employers in public-interest technology. Unlike traditional career fairs, PITCREWS provided a more personal setting for real conversations about career paths and opportunities.

Nearly 200 students registered for the event, engaging with nine employers: Battelle, Invenergy, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Intel, Dominion Energy, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), the Ohio Department of Medicaid, the City of Columbus City Auditor, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Students explored career options through direct conversations, learning about industry needs while sharing their own skills and interests. Employers, representing a mix of industries and government organizations, emphasized the growing demand for skilled technologists dedicated to public service.

By prioritizing meaningful connections, PITCREWS helped students gain career insights and expand their professional networks. As the demand for innovative problem-solvers grows, we look forward to seeing how future iterations of PITCREWS continue to evolve and create opportunities for students and employers alike.
