Caleb Embree

2022 Ohio Public Interest Fellow

Caleb Embree received his B.S in Biology, with concentrations in Microbiology, Genetics, and Cell and Molecular Biology from Ball State University. He is currently pursuing a PhD from The Ohio State University in the field of Molecular Genetics. He loves all things related to RNA biology and focuses his research on pre-mRNA splicing and RNA quality control.

Caleb first got interested in the intersection between science and public policy as an extension of a number of philosophy classes taken during his undergrad. Working on his PhD in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic strengthened his interest in science policy. He is interested in solving policy problems surrounding drug development, the biotech industry, conservation, and increasing access to higher education. He is particularly concerned about social justice and using data to ensure equitable solutions.

Outside of the lab, Caleb can often be found at the movies or playing D&D. He happily lives with his cat Circe and a growing collection of art.

As an Ohio Public Interest Fellow, Caleb will be working with H2Ohio Restoration Projects.
